Field Engineer - Robotics Operations
About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Field Engineer - Robotics Operations to deploy, operate, troubleshoot, and improve our robotic harvesting systems. You will work directly with machines in commercial fields, combining equipment operation, technical problem-solving, field testing, and customer support. This role is ideal for someone who takes ownership, adapts quickly, and enjoys solving practical problems in a fast-moving startup. Based in the Salinas Valley (CA) and Yuma (AZ), with travel to other deployment locations.
Key responsibilities
- Machine operation. Deploy and operate robotic harvesting systems in commercial and test fields; complete startup, calibration, sanitation, inspection, and shutdown procedures.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, software, hydraulic, and operational issues; perform preventative maintenance and field repairs.
- Field testing. Execute validation activities, collect performance and reliability data, and evaluate hardware and software updates in real operating conditions.
- Product improvement. Document issues clearly and translate field observations into actionable feedback for engineering and product teams.
- Field readiness. Keep tools, spare parts, consumables, vehicles, and equipment ready for deployment; maintain accurate service and maintenance records.
- Customer support. Work professionally with growers and field personnel; support demonstrations, onboarding, operator training, and commercial harvest activities.
- Safety. Follow operational, environmental, and site-specific protocols while maintaining awareness of workers, equipment, and changing field conditions.
What we're looking for
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, mechatronics, robotics, electromechanics, or a related field.
- Experience with machinery, agricultural equipment, robotics, heavy equipment, or technical field service.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
- Comfortable operating equipment and working outdoors in variable agricultural conditions.
- Ability to follow technical procedures, collect reliable data, and document issues clearly.
- Self-reliant, organized, and able to work effectively with limited supervision.
- Clear communication skills with growers, operators, technicians, and engineers.
- Valid driver's license, willingness to travel regularly, and legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Experience with sensors, electronics, data acquisition, autonomous systems, or agricultural operations is an asset.
Who will thrive in this role
- Entrepreneurial mindset, self-starter, and follow problems through to resolution.
- You enjoy hands-on work and prefer solving problems in the field over sitting behind a desk.
- You remain calm and resourceful when equipment, schedules, or field conditions change.
- You are comfortable wearing multiple hats and contributing wherever the team needs support.
- You want your work to directly influence machine reliability, product development, and customer success.
What we offer
- A hands-on role at the forefront of agricultural robotics and harvesting automation.
- Direct involvement in commercial deployments, customer operations, and product development.
- Meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to influence how our technology evolves.
- A collaborative startup environment with strong technical and professional growth opportunities.
- Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications.
